Brigham
Young University Compliant Mechanism Research (CMR) was
established as a result of the Utah
Centers of Excellence Program (click
to visit website). The Centers of Excellence Program
(COEP) is a state-sponsored program that funds late stage
research in order to develop new products, high-tech
companies, and skilled jobs.
BYU CMR focuses on accelerating and
streamlining commercial applications of devices that
obtain their motion from the deflection of flexible
parts rather than from pin joints. These devices are
referred to as compliant mechanisms.
Compliant mechanisms have a variety of unique and powerful advantages that
make them attractive to a variety of industries. Some of these advantages include:
- Reduced
part count
- Long
life
- Reduced
friction, wear, and noise
Currently,
the CMR lab is located in room 187 in the Clyde Building
on the campus of Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
